What is dietary fiber?
Dietary fiber is a complex carbohydrate that cannot be absorbed by the
human body. It functions primarily in the colon, and is an important part
of your diet. Fiber adds bulk and absorbs water. It keeps food moving
through your digestive system and softens stools. A well-balanced diet
should include a variety of high-fiber foods.
-
How much fiber should I have per day?
According to The National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine,
the average adult man 50 years and younger
should get 38 grams of fiber while women should get 25 grams. If you are
older than 50, you should get 30 and 21 grams a day, respectively.
-
How much fiber is in the typical American diet?
While this can vary greatly, depending on how you eat, the average American's diet contains 10 to 12 grams of fiber a day. If you eat more vegetables and unrefined grains, you are getting more fiber. If you eat the typical meat-and-potatoes diet, you are probably getting less.
-
What are the 2 kinds of dietary fiber?
Soluble fiber forms a gel-like material in water.
It helps soften stool,
improves post-meal blood sugars, and lowers cholesterol. It comes from
oats, beans, peas, and fruit pectins.
Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water. It increases the movement of
your digestive system, allowing waste to be eliminated more efficiently.
Wheat bran, whole grain cereals and breads and many vegetables are good
sources of insoluble fiber.
-
What are the benefits of a high-fiber diet?
A high-fiber diet may correct colon disorders such as constipation,
irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), colon polyps, diverticulosis and
hemmorhoids. Fiber may be helpful in treating colon cancer, diabetes, and
high cholesterol.
A high-fiber diet can also help in weight loss. Foods with more fiber tend
to be more filling, and have fewer calories.
-
How do you know these high-fiber products are healthy?
We have a team of general practitioners, gastroenterologists, and dietitians
with whom we consult whenever a new product comes available to see if
it may be beneficial to our customers.
-
Do you manufacturer your own products?
No. We find companies that make high-fiber products that taste good, and sell
them directly to you.
-
Do all your products come from the same warehouse?
No. While we keep some of our products in our own warehouse, many of
our products are shipped to you direct from the manufacturer. This keeps the
products fresh. It also keeps
our costs down, and we can pass the savings along to you. But this means
shipping costs may vary depending on what products you've ordered.

Fiber Powders
Some individuals with severe constipation or other fiber needs require fiber
in everything they eat, and we offer a wide variety of fiber powders that can
be added to recipes or sprinkled on your favorite foods. They generally have
no taste, (and therefore have no effect on the taste of the food--important if
you are dealing with a picky eater).
Two of our most popular fiber powders are
Regularity Plus
(helpful for sluggish colons and chronic constipation)
and
Fiber Supreme
(helps control blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol).
These 2 powders can be cooked right into foods, like oatmeal, muffins,
pancakes, pasta sauce, etc.
For a completely soluble fiber that you can dissolve in juice,
hot chocolate, etc., we recommend
Clear 2 Go.
And for a non-gritty white fiber for chronic constipation you can try
CVF.
Our products can be mixed with cereals, shakes, yogurts, juices, and so on.
Some of them are also wheat-free, gluten-free, lactose-free or sugar-free.
For example,
Pure Apple Fiber
is great for people with allergies. Read the
product descriptions to find out which one is best for you. And if you're
still not sure, check with your local health provider.
We also offer
Milled Flax Seeds
and
Toasted Wheat Germ
for those who like the
"crunchy" approach to fiber.
Ordering info: Minimum order is $25, but you can combine this order with

Fiber Cookies
and
Soy Products
to build up to the minimum, as

Nutra/Balance Juice Plus Fibre
Kids love Juice Plus Fibre because it is real juice, but parents love it
because it's packed with 10 grams of soluble dietary fiber in each 8-ounce
juice box.
Available in
Apple,
Fruit Punch,
Grape, and
Orange,
the juice uses gum acacia,
a natural soluble dietary fiber from the Acacia tree, as its fiber source.
The fiber does not affect the taste or texture of the juice, unlike other
fiber drinks.
The Food and Nutrition board recommends adult males under 50 years old
should get 30 grams of fiber while women should get 25 grams, so
Juice Plus Fibre can help you reach your minimum fiber intake goal.
Ordering info: Juice Plus Fibre is sold in cases of 27 juice boxes--enough for a 1-month
supply if you use 1 juice box a day. You can order a case of a single
flavor, or you can order a
mixed case, which
generally contains 3 or 4 of the flavors.
There is no minimum order of cases, but as you order more cases,
the prices goes down.
You can also order a
mixed trial pack,
if you want to try one of each flavor.
